Buena Nena bohemian lookbook – Costa Rica

Jul 14, 2018Fashion, Style

As I mentioned in this article, what I love the most about San José is the entrepreneurial youth scene. In the same serie, meet Buena Nena!

Carolina Garros Calvo

Entrepreneur, designer and avid traveler in Costa Rica

The brand was created by Carolina, a young and dynamic Argentinian living in Costa Rica for 15 years. She always had a passion for DIYs and creative workshops and along with her passion of travel was born: Buena Nena. Carolina still travels at least twice a year for inspiration and to hunt for unique handmade treasures all over the world. Her mission is to offer timeless pieces that can stand the test of time, without getting worn out or out of trend, but always with a unique touch that makes people ask about what you’re wearing.

I got so many questions at the hotel and at the street while I was shooting the outfits. No wonder! I fell in love with them myself! The fitting session was one of the hardest I’ve ever done, everything was beautiful, high quality, perfectly fitting and comfortable. My dream combo!

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the pleasure to personally meet Carolina, because she lives in Tamarindo where she has another Buena Nena store and its sister store:  . But we will probably meet somewhere in the world!

What can I say, Buena Nena is simply a dream bohemian moodboard coming to life. In here you will find: giant navajo pillows, sunglasses crystals, handmade jewellery from everywhere in the world, unique pieces from LA hip independent designers, decor items, my bohemian dream closet: kimonos, breezy jumpsuits, maxi dresses, flowy blouses… a great selection of items made in Costa Rica by Tico designers and the owner’s handmade bags, pouches, dream catchers and accent pillows.

If you are from San José, lucky you! I would’ve have half my closet at least from Buena Nena. If you’re a traveler like me, it’s an excellent place to shop for gifts for your loved ones, or yourself! It’s always better than the often tacky souvenirs, and you will certainly keep and love your purchases for years. All while supporting independent designers, craftsmen  from all over the world and… slow fashion.

Today, here is the collaboration between Buena Nena and Justdalal, made and curated by Carolina and styled by me, though it was really hard to choose. So thanks to Flor, the store manager for helping me make decisions! Three outfits, that can make a perfect spring/ summer travel capsule to mix and match, travel light but always with style.

Pura vida!
