Postcard from Azemmour

The roadtrip from Rabat to Essaouira was amazing! We drove along the coast and discovered a lot of new places. One that particularly surprised me was la Kasbah d’Azemmour. A beautiful mauresque fort with a lot of street art. Every wall was Instagram worthy: street art, white washed walls,  refurbished doors, pastel colours and vintage calligraphy, it reminded me of Assilah’s artsy vibe. The city of Azemmour lies only 75 km southwest of Casablanca and overlooks Oum Rabie Lake.

It’s a coastal city, and we were advised to check out Haouzia beach known for surf and kite surf. But we didn’t have the time to do more than a little walk in the old Kasbah and a picnic along the river. We will certainly take the time to visit Azemmour in depth since it’s not very far from Rabat. I can’t wait to discover its riads, art galleries, beaches and do a boat tour on the river.

I’ll let you have a taste in pictures.

The place is not very touristic and a bit conservative. If you visit, make sure to dress accordingly.

Nothing extreme, just avoid skimpy shorts and mini skirts.
